Video Player!

While most of these articles focus on Videux as a video organizer, let's take a quick look at Videux as a video player. Yes, there are other video players available for the Mac, but Videux shines as a beautiful and functional player. Videux is sold in three different flavors:

  • Videux Play LT - The "Light" version, this sells for about what a cup of fancy coffee costs.
  • Videux Pro AS - The full version of the app, sold on the Apple App Store.
  • Videux Pro DL - The full version of the app, downloadable from this website.

The Play LT version is a fully functional video player, capable of referencing tens of thousands of videos, ranging in size from full length movies down to small video clips. Play LT can be upgraded to add the Playlist functionality and/or the Stock (organizational) functionality. If you purchase both upgrades, the app is now exactly the same as either of the Pro versions. However, if you don't need one or both of those pieces, you can save a little money with Play LT. And you can always upgrade later if you choose.

Check out this short video about using the player functionality of Videux:

Videux handles most common Mac video formats (more formats will be added in future releases). Videux can happily skip from one format to the next without needing to resize the player. And this works in fullscreen as well. For example, you can jump from 1080/60i clip to an Ultra HD 24p clip seamlessly in fullscreen.

Sometimes, when comparing video clips, you want to resume playback from where you left it. If you pause a video, Videux will remember where you left off. In addition, you can set an option so that Videux will remember the last point you played in each video as you skip from clip to clip with the mouse or cursor keys (enable this in the Preferences menu):

If you want to add Playlist functionality to Videux Play LT, you can do that via an In App Purchase. Videux Playlists let you build playlists your way. There is no need to transcode your clips to match - Videux can play dissimilar clips in the same playlist. You can duplicate clips in your playlist (like a repeating logo clip), and you can loop or shuffle the entire playlist. The playlist can be set to playback in the window, or fullscreen, and can even playback on a separate monitor.

Videux Play LT can do more than just playback your videos. It can help you organize them and find what you want to play quickly and efficiently. While this version lacks some of the organization features of it's Pro big brothers, you can still take advantage of the ratings, Pick/Reject/Unmark, and Search capabilities.

Don't forget, both of the pro versions of Videux, Pro AS and Pro DL, have all of these features and more.
